Parish of Loders

Loders Parish is a thriving rural community that covers the villages of Loders and Uploders.  It is an attractive historic settlement set in beautiful unspoilt countryside in West Dorset, situated two miles north east of the market town of Bridport and 13 miles from Dorchester.

The villages lie in the folds of the surrounding Powerstock Hills and have developed along the waterline of the River Asker, a small affluent of the River Brit.  A single lane village road runs along the valley connecting the villages of Bradpole in the west and Askerswell in the east.

The villages are well served by a thriving primary school, Parish Church of St Magdalene, a late Georgian Methodist Chapel, two pubs and a modern village hall which hosts many events and activities throughout the year.

*****       Loders and Uploders 20mph      *****
*******          Speed Limit Survey          *******

The 20mph survey has now closed.

Loders Parish Council has received requests from a number of residents to seek the introduction of a 20mph speed limit in some areas of the parish. As a consequence, the Parish Council have carried out a 20mph survey to gather information on the level of public support for such a move. There were 311 responses to the survey and of these, 272 responses (87%) were in agreement with the proposal to adopt a 20mph limit in the area within the parish which is currently the subject of a 30mph limit with one minor extension of the speed limited area in Smishops Lane by 105 yards to include Highacres. The next step in the process is to fund speed surveys in 3 specific locations in the parish. To ensure a realistic opportunity for compliance, 20mph schemes should be self-enforcing so mean speeds should already be at or below 24mph.
